Research suggests that, while 2S/LGBTQ+ individuals engage with mental health care more than cisgender and heterosexual people, this does not mean their needs are being met. Theoretical frameworks like minority stress and intersectionality are helpful in understanding the way systemic challenges drive mental health inequities and barriers to care for 2S/LGBTQ+ people. This data highlight sheet shares findings from the Our Health 2022 survey to gain further insights related to mental health programming, support, and service access barriers for 2S/LGBTQ+ people since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
