During the COVID-19 pandemic, access to in-person clinical sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health care shifted dramatically. Many 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people had less access to services such as Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infection (STBBI) testing, fertility clinics, and abortion services, as well as being impacted by the delay or cancellation of surgeries including gender-affirming surgeries. New options such as virtual care were introduced or expanded — options that may be here to stay.
CBRC’s project, called Meet us where we’re at, is trying to understand:
- What 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people need and want in terms of sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health care outside of typical clinical settings.
- The experiences, challenges, and learnings of health care providers who deliver sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health care to 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people
Through interviews and focus groups, we hope to be able to identify recommendations for policy and practice change, to reduce barriers that 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people face.
Our work is guided by 8 Community Advisors, who bring their diverse lived experiences to all aspects of the project.
The funding of this study is provided by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. This research has been reviewed by the University of Victoria’s Research Ethics Board and conforms to the standards of the Canadian Tri-Council Research Ethics guidelines.
Seeking 2S/LGBTQQIA+ Community Members
We are seeking focus group participants for a new study about sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health care outside of typical clinical settings. If you identify as 2S/LGBTQQIA+, want to share your experiences in accessing sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health care since March 2020, are 16 years of age or older, and are able to participate in a focus group in English or French, we want to hear from you!
Participants will receive an honorarium for participating in a focus group on Zoom.

We are seeking interview participants for a new study!
If you are a health care provider who provides sexual, reproductive, or gender-affirming health care to 2S/LGBTQQIA+ community members anywhere in Canada, and are able to participate in an interview in English or French, we want to hear from you!
Participants will receive an honorarium for participating in a Zoom or phone interview.
